The illiterate patient

Have you ever been exhausted after an appointment with one of your doctors?  Well maybe it’s not just our emotions, maybe it’s the fact that we’re working up quite the learning curve. According to the The News and Numbers from the Agency for Healthcare Research just 12 percent of Americans have the health literacy skills needed to get and use health information to make health care decisions. They include weighing the risks and benefits of different treatments, knowing how to calculate health insurance costs, and being able to fill out complex medical forms. The examples in this list look pretty basic compared to some of the med regimens you and I are on.  So hold your head up high, you’re in the top 12%. I’ve listed the link below.
